Been having an issue with one of my users, in regards to Java.

She is using a state program that will only work with Java 6 Update 24 or older. So, I uninstalled Update 30 and tried to install Update 22, and received the following error message: "Java Setup Internal Error 2753.regutils.dll"

I tried Googling the error message and keep seeing the same responses: uninstall older versions, run cleaners, run registry cleaners, run javara and everything of those sorts.

I have tried everything that I have round, running removal tools, cleaners, registry cleaners, java specific removers and cleaners, and I get that same error message every time I try to install Java, no matter what I do.

So, I opened the registry and did a search for "Java" and deleted every key/string/whatever, that said Java somewhere in it. After doing that, I tried installing Java again and got some error message (can't remember specifically), saying that the Java installation failed due to the older version being unable to be removed.

Now, in saying that, I have gone to add/remove programs, and Java is not even listed. I have gone to the "C:\username\..........\" and deleted any Java folders.

This whole thing is throwing me for a loop. Can someone please help me??

Thank you!

It sounds like you're on the right track and I've been there myself a couple of times. Java is one of the most frustrating applications when it comes to installing previous versions.

Here are a few other places to look that you may not have cleaned (or at least you didn't mention that you did):
Empty the following:
c:\temp
c:\windows\temp
c:\documents and settings\%username%\local settings\temp

Delete the following:
c:\documents and settings\all users\application data\sun
C:\documents and settings\%username%\application data\sun

also look for any cache directories that refer to sun, java, etc. (I can't remember where they're at of the top of my head)

You might also want to re-download the installer and verify that it is the correct executable for your platform (32 bit vs 64 bit / windows XP vs 7, etc.)

All I can say is keep whacking at it - reboot a few times in between tries - hopefully you'll get it.
