Microsoft Windows Rights Management Services (RMS) for Windows Server 2003 makes calls to Internet Web services during enrollment of RMS certification servers, when renewing RMS licensor certificates, and during client-activation requests. If you monitor network activity from an RMS certification server, you'll periodically see requests to uddi.microsoft.com, uddi.ibm.com, and uddi.sap.com, which are the three biggest Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) repositories on the Internet. RMS certification servers use UDDI to locate services that can process enrollment and activation requests. At the time of this writing, responses to these requests direct servers to certification.drm.microsoft.com (for enrollment operations) and activation.drm.microsoft.com (for client activation). Microsoft might add additional enrollment and activation server clusters, with different URLs, in the future.
