Q. Are there any tools that will help me understand the energy savings I'll get if I consolidate with Hyper-V?

A. Microsoft offers a nice ROI tool to help calculate money saved by virtualizing your server infrastructure, both from a power and hardware cost. Select the "Register for full assessment" link for the Server Energy Savings Calculator. You can then specify information about the number of servers you have today, expected growth, and consolidation ratio, and the site will provide cost estimates of the savings, in addition to your reduced footprint on the environment.
