Service Function Reason to Disable
Computer Browser Lets your system participate as a master browser and engage in browser elections. You don't want the machine to participate as a potential master browser on the network segment.
Server Provides the SMB (aka, CIFS) server component on an NT system. You don't want to share file or print resources on the machine, or you don't need to remotely access the Registry.
Alerter Sends administrative alerts to the recipients listed in the Alerts dialog box of the Server applet in Control Panel. You don't need this machine to send administrative alerts.
Messenger Sends and receives messages that pop up at the recipient's console. You don't require this machine to send or receive pop-up messages.
Remote Access Autodial Manager Prompts the system to use DUN to automatically establish connections to remote networks. You don't want autodialing enabled, and you want users to manually initiate DUN connections.
