TechEd 2011: Veeam Adding Hyper-V Support
Posted @ 5/27/2011 11:43 AM By Zac Wiggy
I met with Veeam at TechEd last week, and their message was simple: Hyper-V support is coming this year.

Doug Hazelman, Veeam's senior director of product strategy, said Hyper-V compatibility is planned to be part of Veeam Backup and Replication version 6, due in the fourth quarter of 2011. Hazelman said Veeam was working hard to include technology, like change block tracking, for Hyper-V. He said VMware has an API for this—it lets Veeam make incremental backups without scanning an entire virtual hard drive—but Veeam is having to make technology to do this on Hyper-V.
"We wanted to make sure the backup experience for Hyper-V … was going to be the same, if not faster, than VMware," Hazelman said.
Version 6 of Veeam will also have other enhancements, not just Hyper-V support, but Hazelman said Veeam wasn't ready to talk about them yet at TechEd. Licensing and pricing details of the new version of Veeam are still to be determined. See Veeam's site for more info.
