Blake's Product Pick of the Week: Lieberman Software Account Reset Console 4.0http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/passwords/blake-s-product-pick-of-the-week-lieberman-software-account-reset-console-4-0#commentsAnchorMon, 06 Jul 2009 12:57:02 GMT
Normally I love your picks- But this time... come on! Tried this product- major security issues. Admin settings in the external web portal? Sure, sign me right up for that, give a 12-yr-old russian kid something to hack and get into my domain. SQL server?? For what? Isn’t AD already there as a database, and doesn’t it have all the neccessary schema fields to support a self service process? It sure does! Again, sign me right up for storing sensitive user data (including passwords) outside of AD.. NOT! What happens if you lose your sql db? oops- lost all of your enrollements... start over. What this tells me is the vendor does not know how to properly write code for Active Directory services and is trying to suppliment that by forcing you to use external DBs. The only (and I mean only) password self service / reset product I have found that is (a) highly secure, (b) highly redundant, (c) easy to deploy and (d) easy for non-tech users is Password Reset PRO from SysOp Tools (http://www.sysoptools.com/password-reset-pro.aspx). This is how external web based user self service is done properly. As a matter of fact, MS Pinpoint just published a big article about this product. Blake, buddy, you need to get out more!]]>
