I’m missing any instructions regarding troubleshooting of the migration of passwords with an installed password migration server on an NT4.0 PDC. The belonging migration option doesn’t run. ADMT (excuted on W2K3 ADC in the target domain) cannot connect to the export server even though all settings are done (HKLM). My variance: I don’t have an BDC in my test environment, so I try to connect directly to the cloned PDC. Thanks for the easy step-by-step guide for migrating users from a Windows NT 4.0 domain to a Windows 2000 native-mode domain. As I was flipping through Martin McClean’s "ADMT­--The Road to Migration" (November 2000), I noticed one step that I had not taken during the migration of my network from NT 4.0 to Win2K. The target machine was in native mode, and I enabled auditing on both machines. But, I skipped creating a trust between the domains, and everything still worked out fine during the migration. Apparently, the trust step doesn’t need to occur, making the migration that much easier. Also note that this article is good preparation for Microsoft’s 70-222 exam, "Upgrading from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Microsoft Windows 2000." Unfortunately, I took the beta test on a Friday, and I didn’t receive the magazine until the following Monday.
