I actually found a much better and more affordable solution to Open File Manager and I wanted to share it with everyone. It’s called File Access Manager, and it was created by VisionWorks Solutions Inc. They have cheaper licensing and the product is far superior and effecient to Open File Manager. There is no system slowdown like open file manager creates and getting it to work with absolutely any application is extremely easy. Anyway I hope this helps someone out there!]]>

I have installed Wingate for home users to connect with a One-way Cable Modem, since WIN 98 SE, didn’t support this. It worked, but was very quirky. I found another program that works well with a One-way Cable Modems, Avirt Gateway. Easy to setup and use.]]>

The Rights Manager has a small bug. It is picking up the IP that is bound to the Server (default) and not using the IP that you configure with the Rights Manager. This will prevent you from creating more website using it per server. I sent to Microsoft. Just FYI. Great article on this product.]]>

Novell's NDS for NThttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/domains2/novell-s-nds-for-nt#commentsAnchorWed, 11 Aug 1999 10:08:33 GMT
William Wong’s competent and well-researched article, “Novell’s NDS for NT” (April), is marred by the incorrect assertion, “All NT domain users log on through one PDC. (BDCs handle logon requests only when the PDC fails.)” BDCs process logon requests from clients, even when the PDC is online. Which domain controller will process a logon request depends on several factors, but in general, the first domain controller to respond to the logon request will process it. If that were not the case, why would it be necessary to install NDS for NT on all domain controllers, as the author points out a few paragraphs later? I almost stopped reading the article when I encountered the error. It’s hard to have faith in the reliability of the information in an article when a basic error appears. Why wasn’t this error caught?
--Martin Grasdal

Thank you for clarifying this mistake. I overlooked the statements in the final version of the article I reviewed. The copy should read, “Windows NT Server clients log on through a PDC or BDC.” The difference is relatively minor and does not affect the rest of the story about how NDS for NT works or its value.

Just when I was ready to give up on Windows NT Magazine (because I think you take a one-sided view in the articles you print), you published William Wong’s “Novell’s NDS for NT” (April). Thank you.
