COMMIT -- Thats where I have the issue. I am in a situation where the topic of Log-Shipping or any HighAvailability solution presents grief. The grief comes from the applications poor design. If this means that transactions have to use the commit and begin statements, I believe we will have to use full backup’s and differentials, instead of log-shipping. Can you offer a bit for detail on the application side. Or! Is there a way to do a full backup, incremental backup 10mb, next incremental backup 10mb so forth and so on, to maintain the relations within the db without worring if the Transaction log will produce the exact DB Data Structure and Relationships. -Tyler Ellis]]>

Editing the Windows NT Registryhttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/registry2/editing-the-windows-nt-registry#commentsAnchorTue, 01 Mar 2005 19:03:47 GMT
Re: Cannot Edit Try viewing your entry using Registry Manager (http://www.kvkconsultancy.co.uk), it may provide you with more information concerning your frozen registry entry (NOTE: always be carefull when editing the registry, unless you have some from of virus or spyware the item is probably frozen for a very good reason). Re: Oracle issue. Siti, it sounds like the value your looking for is stored in the ’hive’ HKEY_CURRENT_USER which differs for each user. One solution to your problem is to logon as each user that requires access to the program in question and either run the setup program for the required application under their logon or manually add the required registry value(s) yourself. There are alterntive methods but the one I have suggested is the least technically complex. If anyones looking for a good registry editor? Check out: http://www.kvkconsultancy.co.uk ... I have a question about statically configuring lease on the router. As I understood the command is: Router(dhcp-config)#lease 30,(eg), but it sais it can be days, hours or minutes. I can’t find how ti specify is it 30 days, hours or minutes. Or the command allready has a set measurement? If it does which one is it?]]>

Restoring Databaseshttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/tsql3/restoring-databases#commentsAnchorFri, 20 Aug 2004 10:01:14 GMT
I am restoring a database that is over 4 GB. I have set that up via stored procedure to restore and then to add a user and set the attributes. The restore fails when the backup fike is over a 2 GB. THe MDF and LDF files are created but the database is not accessible. What could be causing this. If the backup file is less then 2 GB it rstores fine.]]>

Very informative article. I use what turn out to be non-correlated subqueries quite a lot, and was glad to find they’re non-correlated. The certainly run quite fast, though my recorsets are fairly small - only about 20,000 outer and about 2,000 inner. Concerning the correlated subquery example in your article: although this illustrates your point very nicely, why not use a non-correlated subquery instead, along the lines of: SELECT a.au_id, a.au_lname, a.au_fname FROM authors a WHERE a.au_id IN (SELECT t.au_id FROM titleauthor t)]]>

In the article, you state "You can, however, place the transaction log on a RAID 0 disk array, which mirrors the log and gives you extra redundancy in case of a disk failure." RAID 0 offers no redudancy benefits, only speed benefits. The "mirroring" you are referring to is actually RAID 1.]]>

Even if the ERD is too big for a floppy, use RDISK /S to create the backups in the /%system%/repair directory. Copy these files off to other storage (I burned them to a CDROM). Then if you need them, COPY them from the CD back into the /%system%/repair directory. When you do a recovery installation, you can hit ESC instead of RETURN at the repair disk prompt, and it will find the files on the hard drive.]]>
