Bluetooth Applications: An Updatehttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/mobile-and-wireless2/bluetooth-applications-an-update#commentsAnchorFri, 28 May 2004 14:36:05 GMT
Hello, For your next article on Bluetooth you may want to talk about it’s newest version with adaptive frequency hopping(AFH). As you probably know Bluetooth hops across 79 channels 1600 times every second. WIFI on the other hand only uses about 11 channels and only changes when it’s data rate becomes miniscule. Bluetooth also has several classes. Class 1 being the most powerful will interfere with a WIFI network where a WIFI network will not interfere with a bluetooth network because of the hopping scheme. This sounds like a WIFI problem, yet the advanced and still advancing technology of Bluetooth has solved it with their AFH. Bluetooth with AFH scans all the shared channels and takes note not to use the channels already being used. The company tht I work for is a Bluetooth developer and we come across these types of questions everyday. If you wish to learn more don’t hesitate to e-mail me Adam Tuck adam@intgrated-magnetics.com]]>

Is WAP Right for Your Mobile Needs?http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/mobile-and-wireless2/is-wap-right-for-your-mobile-needs-#commentsAnchorWed, 19 May 2004 07:40:09 GMT
Connect the iPAQ to the Internet through the phone, using Bluetooth for communications between the iPAQ and the phone. Talk on the Bluetooth headset, which transmits my conversation to the mobile phone in my bag, pocket, or anywhere within 30’. Answer or dial the phone from the Bluetooth headset. Use GPRS to quickly access WAP applications from the phone. Use the phone’s GPRS Internet connection to synchronize my Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server email, Calendar, and Contacts to the iPAQ. Talk on the phone while using the iPAQ and GPRS connection. << how do you do that? care for a step-by-step, or a guide maybe? thanks.]]>

Delving More Deeply into the Tablet PChttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/mobile-and-wireless2/delving-more-deeply-into-the-tablet-pc#commentsAnchorTue, 20 Jan 2004 17:25:47 GMT
I am shopping for the tablet PC I will buy in about a month. this info is really enlightening. I am one of those who sees exactly what Bill gates sees in the tablet. This is bolstered by the fact that I have not been hoplessly indoctrinated in the use of the keyboard as the only man-to-hardware interface device. this is due to a long affair with the HP Jordana Pocket PC. (I’m not a Bill G. / M.S. proponent).]]>

Mobile Information Server 2002 and Other WAGshttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/mobile-computing-devices/mobile-information-server-2002-and-other-wags#commentsAnchorWed, 28 May 2003 12:52:56 GMT
it’s unfair comparison between MIS and SureWave Enterprise server (SES). MIS does not support some important features of WAG like supporting Mobitex, providing offline access, cradle and wireless synchronization, and supporting open standards like SyncML, SES supports all these featues and thus much advanced mobile platform than just a WAG.]]>

Tablet PC Application and Development Considerationshttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/mobile-and-wireless2/tablet-pc-application-and-development-considerations#commentsAnchorThu, 02 Jan 2003 11:43:02 GMT
Why use the tablet PC? As a company that has developed a tablet PC application primarily for the healthcare industry, (though many other verticals are now asking us if we can tweak our technology for their industry) I am interested in what you are seeing in this space regarding if people understand the power of the tablet PC. Our CEO and the founder of the company recently went into CompUSA (granted only a retailer) to review the Toshiba tablet. The sales person spent most of his time suggesting a lap top and that he didn’t really know why people would use these tablets. Our CEO went on to communicate how our application works and to expand the perspective of this individual as to how the tablet PC may be used rather than a laptop. We recently met with an accounting group to show them our application. Once we showed them our application - the tablet PC became a great tool and as they understood its use they were able to see what a powerful a tool the tablet is. They explained how most accountants have their information in a combination of disparate systems and hard copies in a file. When needing to be mobile they go to the client often time with pen and paper in hand and some of the files they think are relevant. We desribed a world where a tablet PC with our virtual reality filing system could allow them to take all relevant data in a tablet PC, have the ability to still quickly take notes and make changes and have access to all electronic and legacy information that could be scanned in so they are truly mobile. I am interested in both how hardware people are trying the sell the tablet PC and what emerging applications are coming out as the two definitely need each other to succeed in this space.]]>
