Marnie - This really helped me out Thank You! I would like to say that once I put the entry into DNS I had to make sure that all clients on the intranet were set up to automatically add the correct dns suffix in order to use the short DNS name.(i.e. we wanted the name reshub to equate to the DNS entry with the same name so the host header would be http://reshub which would equate to http://reshub.) I realize this is beyond the scope of the article but wanted to say thank you! - David Freshman dfreshman@netzero.net]]>

FrontPage Server Extensions Make IIS Administration Easierhttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/microsoft-management-console-mmc/frontpage-server-extensions-make-iis-administration-easier#commentsAnchorWed, 26 Jan 2005 10:43:16 GMT
All articles on the subject refer to a "virtual host". Nobody cares to explain what is a virtual host and much less how to make it. If I am reading this manual, these are things that I precisely want to know. Please forgive me but I am trying to understand how to go about testing a FrontPage-based (Or designed) webs operation and always get stumped when the words "virtual host" appear. Thank you for your time and patience.]]>

Tips for Setting Up IIS and Site Serverhttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/installation2/tips-for-setting-up-iis-and-site-server#commentsAnchorMon, 13 Oct 2003 03:51:55 GMT
My application generates mails by using SMTP default server for IIS. But all the mails go to IIS Queue folder. I have already given the host computer IP in IIS SMTP Server setting. SMTP is also working fine. In event viewer of Server I am getting the message as follows. "The categorizer is unable to initialize. The error code is ’0xc004055e : 0x00000003’". I hope someone can help me, thank you very much! It’s very urgent. Regards Vishal]]>

Can Users Find Your Domain?http://www.windowsitpro.com/article/domains2/can-users-find-your-domain-#commentsAnchorWed, 02 May 2001 07:57:53 GMT
I read your article and was struck by your www as a latest user trend. As of January this year I finished a 2-year stint as Manager of an ISP call center. I can tell you from experience that users have left out the www for a very long time. Every DNS (legacy) record and web header (current) we set up had both the www and non-www entries included. Our little way of keeping the racket down on our hosting accounts.]]>

If your host header name is not registered, why can’t you combine the IP address with the host header name in the URL to get to a site?]]>

I liked this article as I agree with the Ouija board analogy. I believe there is an error. In Windows 2000 Index Server has been replaced by Indexing Services which is now Index Server 3.0 (I believe). I think it behaves in more or less the same manner but I had not used version 2.0 so I am not positive.]]>
