Backing Up and Restoring IIS Servershttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/systems-administrator/backing-up-and-restoring-iis-servers#commentsAnchorMon, 04 Apr 2005 08:54:54 GMT
A good way to backup the IIS4 metabase is to use MetaEdit 2.2 and export all websites. The resulting text file can be used to restore all IIS settings on a different installation/machine without limitations. The only issue is, that I haven’t found a way to script this procedure yet.]]>

IIS4/IIS4 Metabases are not portable between computers. So a backup of teh metabase ist not sufficent in cases, where the server needs to be replacesd completely]]>

Hi, The explanation was very helpful. Can I create my own certificate to use in my intranet instead of getting a certificate from a certificate agency. If yes how. It would be very kind of you to let me know on amolsbox@rediffmail.com Thanks in advance. Amol]]>

Making Dynamic Web Pages in IIShttp://www.windowsitpro.com/article/jscript/making-dynamic-web-pages-in-iis#commentsAnchorThu, 27 Nov 2003 20:39:25 GMT
The article states a number of times that ASP is a language, which is simply not true. This is a common misconception which should be corrected here, not reinforced. ASP is a framework which allows you to use a scripting language on the web server. From the box it supports server-side VBScript and JScript, but others are available commercially. Angela]]>

How do I link to my ftp server from my web page? right now when someone clicks the link "ftp://server/folder" it gives them a file not found error, but once they hit enter in the addess bar, it takes them to the site. Its almost like IE doesn’t know its an ftp site until then]]>

The best way to prepare to restore an IIS server is to reverse engineer and/or script the creation of virtual directories. The metabase backup is mostly worthless as you need to have a ghost of your server which only works if you are reinstalling to an exact hardware replica.]]>

I just wonder if a valid, "Clent/browser" recognized certificate can be obtained for testing only, with out any cost. I need to do some client-side testing with a valid CA (i.e. Verisign). I know that an M.S. one can be generated and used but you run into problems with verious browsers not liking the imported CA. It seems a waste to purchase one from Verisign just to test. PS: I heard that you can obtain a trail SSL Cert from Verisign, is this true??? Can any help?]]>

How do you compensate for multiple users trying to ftp to a default ftp site, many at the same time. Is there some setting that will allow several users to log in simultaneously?]]>
