Editors share perspectives from vendors about products, services, technologies, and industry directions.

Vendors at TechEd offered up several new—or at least, new to me—terms in describing their products and partnerships. For example, Phil Lieberman of Lieberman Software (www.lanicu.com) talked about cratering, or infecting your systems with benign files to block or disable certain types of virus attacks. Akonix Systems (www.akonix.com), which demonstrated its instant messaging (IM) security and management platform, said it recently added a spim (spam over IM) filter to its product to prevent the spread of worms over IM because customers are requesting it. And several companies talked about how they've launched coopetition (cooperation with competitors) efforts to ensure customer satisfaction through effective partnerships.
