Exclusive: Microsoft Delays Vista Beta 2 to Late May, RTM to October 25, 2006

Microsoft announced on Tuesday that it wouldn't be able to deliver
Windows Vista in time for the 2006 holiday sales season. My sources now
tell me that the company plans a release to manufacturing (RTM) for
Vista on or before October 25, 2006, approximately two months later
than the previous shipment schedule. And the company has delayed the
next major Vista milestone, the Beta 2 release, from April to late May
2006.

The official announcement contains none of these details. In its
statement, Microsoft said simply that it would ship the volume-
licensed, business-oriented versions of Vista in November 2006 and the
consumer-oriented versions in January 2007. The company curiously
blamed this latest delay on its computer industry partners. "Product
quality and a great out-of-box experience have been two of our key
drivers for Windows Vista, and we are on track to deliver on both," Co-
President of Platform Products and Services Jim Allchin says in the
statement. "But the industry requires greater lead time to deliver
Windows Vista on new PCs during [the] holiday\[s]. We must optimize for
the industry, so we've decided to separate business and consumer
availability."

Additionally, there is a new Vista roadmap. The Beta 2 release,
previously scheduled for April, has been delayed until late May.
Vista, formerly code-named Longhorn, has been delayed repeatedly
in the past few years. The Windows XP successor was originally
expected to ship in 2003.

Anyhow, seeing as XP is sufficient for all the things I do, I'm quite prepared to wait for Vista and DirectX 10. I'll upgrade when Vista deems itself worthy though. I wonder what the DX10 compliant Graphics cards will be like? So many things to look forward too.

Do apples have quad Sli? Do they support crossfire? Heck, do they even have Sli?

I love all the pc shootdown talk as the apple world markets share sits there equal with linux.

Yet another good article ruined by over zealous macintosh losers who are not content with the market they already have. Sour grapes anyone?

If there is going to be a delay I think MS should incorporate the feature of Virtual PC into Vista, in a way that allows people to use the virtual environment to protect the host from anything the Internet has to offer.
I personally use the Internet free from all hacker frustration installing Windows XP Pro off a .vhd file enabling the undo disk feature to erase hacker, virus, malware, spyware, etc from existence. I do this by burning the .vhd file to CD and then using the undo disk feature to recover instantly from any issues regarding any attacks against my Internet experience.

I only install Internet speaking apps in the virtual world, leaving the host with nothing but local apps and games that never need to see the light of the Internet, this along with the standard security protection, anti-virus, firewalls, anti-spyware, loopback configured host files that would prevent most of these types of attacks from harming my system.

I still see things that attack the system, but these viruses, and trojans think they are attacking a real system and in fact it is more like a honey pot.
Furthermore I prevent the local host from being able to see the internet using the firewall and disabling services that are required to make it work on the local host all while being able to surf even known dangerous sites without worry or concern because I have taken my focus away from the unsuccessful task of preventing these kinds of attacks, and put it on instant recovery instead. I still protect the system in all of the traditional ways but now I can do what ever I want on the Internet and stick it to the attackers another way. MS needs to build a Virtual PC app into Vista to allow this kind of technique to be used widespread. To me it is the closest thing to being unhackable since the CD-ROM is read only the best they can do to me is wreak my temp .vhd which I can turn off and patch then surf again.

    Thanks,

quote "You di have a point there mcm_ham BUT is predecting when a software is going to come out so tough that there is a 3YEAR difference between the prefected date and the actual release? And some time I really think of OSX leopard taking over vista, and its a good thought! And why not MOST people I know are frustated WIN XP and want and an upgrade, so why not, and apple computers, laptops, mp3 players everything shows such nice simplictity. They are so much more secure, simple to use and DAMN user-friendly! My age is 12 years and I play hell lot of high definition games not available in mac but with red box i guess I will be tempted to change to apple. And you said that apple has to stick to their small set of hardware, YES and thats because apple provides all hardware needed for mac which microsoft dosent and thats why people buy other company hardware, whereas apple provides everthing (except for a tabletpc and a gaming console) THATS THE WHOLE GOD DAMN POINT!"

First of all everything apple makes is not so perfect, I run a school with over 700 apple computers and it’s not as pretty as your making it sound. Also I happen to owned just about every iPod out there and I had really bad problems with all of them (luckily I bought Bestbuys replacement plans on all). About apple making everything available, that’s not necessarily a good thing. That’s how monopolies are created, and they do monopolize their industry. Unlike Microsoft whose main priority is to make software, apple is al over the place making more room for mistakes. You can buy a pc or make a lot cheaper than an apple computer, why because in the pc side we half competition (IBM, dell, Toshiba…) and from who do you have to buy an apple computer from? Apple. Now about your comment that apple is “so much more secure”, well think about how many people use apple computers VS how many pcs are out there. Apple is more secure simply because not a lot of people bother hacking or making viruses (or know how) in
