Windows 7 Sets Sales Record

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer described Windows 7's first ten days of sales as "fantastic" while in Japan yesterday. And while he didn't provide specific numbers, he did add that the first 10 days of Windows 7 sales generated more revenue than had any previous Windows version in the same time period.

Windows 7's torrid sales pace actually started well before the system became generally available, on October 22. In the previous quarter, Microsoft sold more copies of Windows than it had in any quarter in its history. Much of that was from Windows 7 pre-orders, though the company actually deferred reporting half of those sales for the current quarter.

Roughly 95 percent of Microsoft's customers acquire Windows with a new PC, and Windows 7 is expected to lead a tech industry rebound in coming quarters. "People don't buy operating systems, they buy computers with operating systems on them," Ballmer noted, saying he is now "more bullish" on the PC market than he's been in many months.

    On Wininfo Short Takes:

Apple trumpets 100,00 Apps at the App Store.

Paul gives it the headline "Meaningless Statistics, Part 1"

For some reason when that blow hard Monkey Boy brags about 2 weeks of Win 7 sales without providing sales numbers it gets a separate story line and a glowing headline
    "Windows 7 sets sales record"

I don't doubt that Win 7 has set sales records out of the gate, since it has already passed Snow Leopard & Linux market share. Ars technica has the story here.

But, as usual Monkey Boy is full of BS.

Despite what he says 95% of MS customers do not buy a new Windows OS with a new PC. While MS is raking in the money for its overpriced upgrade, there has been far less joy for their PC partners

    See Digitimes here:

According to Philip Elmer-DeWitt, Vista sold more PCs during its launch than Windows 7 did.

I think Paul needs a more appropriate headline.

I suggest "Meaningless statistics & total BS, Part 2"

Windows 7 is a solid release. But...after using it on my Home PC for only one hour I got bored with it. Let's face it, there simply are no compelling new features this release. In fact I can't do anything with Windows 7, that I couldn't do with Vista. Where's the big upgrade? Where is the new functionality? Where is the mind blowing new eye-candy? New Wallpaper! Are you kidding me? At least I only paid the promotional $49.95 pre-order price.

When I "switched" to a Mac, everything was new! There were lots of new apps to explore and learn. And new pride to be had from owning a laptop not made out of plastic. It was the biggest computer upgrade of my life, and no...Windows 7 doesn't even come close in comparison. Sorry.

For all of the Windows fanboys who read this site I have some information for you. I was a Windows fanboy once too, and Vista made me jump ship. The Mac is a great computer and a major upgrade for anyone who loves computers.

It just needs more games! This is the only downside, but at least we have Boot Camp.

"How about you open your mind and overcome your irrational dislike for all things Apple."

Umm.... Genius - I own an iPhone. And I love it. It's the best phone I've ever owned. But I wouldn't use it in a business environment where I needed complete customization and control over it, or custom applications - still one of its biggest weaknesses.

I also loathe iTunes - to the point where it's worth it to me to buy a Zune. The Zune software runs laps around iTunes when it comes to music.

See - I don't hate one company or another. I hate trolls. I hate the attitude that Apple sells. And I use what works for me and does what I need it to do, regardless of the manufacturer.

    Awww bless.

    It's not just me though.

    @infinitetroll:

"I'd still say its the benchmark."

And I gotta say, I'm just shocked by that. You saying an Apple product is the best?? Wow! You know, coming from someone who clearly has such an open mind that means the world to me.
