It's Official: Windows 7 Available Oct. 22

Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 7 will be released to manufacturing in July and generally available on October 22

As noted by Paul Thurrott, the dates for the new OS have been confirmed. Microsoft's official announcement doesn't seem to be posted on the web yet, but the dates have been picked up by reliable sources such as the Wall Street Journal and CNET.
