Working Around Win2K's Media Sense Feature

My company uses a commercial software product that employs a NIC's MAC address as part of its security dongle. We've used this product on Dell and Compaq laptops running Windows NT, and the software works both when the laptops are connected to the network (through a 3Com PC Card) and when the users are roaming.

does this stuff work on xp?

Hello, I was reading this article and found it kind of funny that I ran into the same thing. Our work around for this was using a loopback adapter while the machine was not connected to the domain. I guess this is another alternative if you're not comfortable doing registry editing. :)
