Windows 2000 Fax Service

Have you ever tried to use Windows 2000's Fax service and received a No Dial Tone error message? Neither Win2K's Help trouble-shooters nor Microsoft's Knowledge Base articles offer a solution to this problem, and Win2K doesn't offer a Command to execute before dialing option during the Fax service's configuration.

However, a solution exists. Start a registry editor, navigate to the HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Fax\Devices\number of device\Modem subkey, double-click the PreDialCommand value, and input ATX3. When you restart the Fax service, you'll be able to successfully send faxes.
