According to an Evans Data survey of 400 IT executives at organizations with more than 1000 employees, 75 percent have already incorporated some level of Web services into their applications and 98 percent will be developing Web services—enabled applications within 2 years, as the graph shows. Web services are emerging not as a technology for business-to-business (B2B) interoperability, as many had forecast, but to add functionality and integration features to internal applications. Companies are learning to walk before they run by first using Web services to enhance applications that they control from end to end.
