The trick to preventing an unbootable system when a mirrored spare boot disk fails is to install Windows NT on the spare drive and create both a bootable (i.e., active) partition and a Master Boot Record (MBR) table on this drive. Then, install NT on the primary drive. If the primary drive is disconnected or fails, the system will still boot.
