I recently started using Performance Monitor to watch the length of SMTP queues. Even though messages appear to be flowing normally, the queue length keeps increasing. Why is this so?

If message traffic to regular users is OK, you probably have a message-replication problem between your Microsoft Exchange Server servers or domain controllers (DCs). Use Exchange System Manager (ESM) to check whether messages are arriving in the system mailboxes assigned to various servers.
