Adjusting FrontPage Setup Parameters

I recently installed hotfix MS01-035 (FrontPage Server Extension Sub-Component Contains Unchecked Buffer) because my servers are vulnerable to this exploit. However, when I later clicked the Server Extensions tab in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Internet Information Services snap-in, MMC shut down. How can I prevent this behavior?

You've discovered the reason that Microsoft pulled this hotfix some time after its release. At the time of writing, the updated hotfix wasn't available for download, but you might be able to get an advanced copy from Microsoft Support Services. In the future, if you need to adjust Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions setup parameters but can't access the Internet Information Services snap-in, you can make the adjustment directly by editing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SharedTools\WebServerExtensions registry subkey.
