Microsoft said on Monday that it sold more than 1 million Kinect add-ons for the Xbox 360 in its first 10 days of availability. The company says that the device, which went on sale in North America on November 4, is on track to sell more than 5 million units by the end of 2010.

"We are appreciative of the response we have seen from consumers that has culminated in sales of more than 1 million units in the first 10 days on the market for Kinect for Xbox 360," said Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Business President Don Mattrick. "This is a great start to the holiday season, and we will continue to work with our retailer partners to keep pace with high demand and deliver against our plan to sell more than 5 million Kinect sensors worldwide by the end of this year."

Kinect is a motion-sensor add-on for Microsoft's popular Xbox 360 video game console, enabling a new generation of Nintendo Wii-like—but controller-free—games. The device is available as a standalone add-on for $150, or you can purchase it in a bundle with two different Xbox 360 models, for $300 and $400 respectively.

The Kinect is coming to new locales soon, which should help it achieve the 5 million unit sales mark. Microsoft will offer the Kinect in Europe on November 10, in Asia on November 18, and then in Japan on November 20. There are about a dozen Kinect-specific titles available now, and Microsoft expects 17 to become available by the end of the year.

    Let me get this straight....

You claim you don't post on other articles because there is nothing to say

"IE 9 preview... What am I going to write? "Good job MS?" That's just a waste of a post. "

But you want to read something about the Kinnect such as

"I was hoping *someone* would mention, "hey I bought one for the kids and it was great!" Or, "It stinks"... Whatever. "

Isn't that the exact same thing you said is a waste of a post.

"So in your mind it's a business article. But you never mention Sony or Nintendo, which are the *only* firms even remotely relevant to this discussion. Apple has no business being mentioned here *ever*. "

This is a business article no matter how much you try to deny it. The fact that you fail to see that shows you are lacking an understanding. I went through each paragraph of the article to show you and you still can't comprehend that.

Apple is mentioned because of Paul's analysis of sales. Another thing you can't seem to comprehend. Paul staked his claim this summer that you need to count from the first day of presells, not the first day of availability. Now he is contradicting that. Its not about Apple, its about consistency, and Pauls lack of it in his reporting.

    "Game, Set, Match."

Really? So in your mind it's a business article. But you never mention Sony or Nintendo, which are the *only* firms even remotely relevant to this discussion. Apple has no business being mentioned here *ever*. Yet there are 6 pages of crap.

"I checked through all of Paul's other recent WinInfo posts, and you have not said a word"

You're not a Windows user, you aren't in IT, and now you're stalking other users who are both Windows users and in IT... You think that's just a little, oh I don't know, weird? Guess what, I don't care how much you post nor would I waste the time to count since my time is a little more important than that. Your employer must be extremely pleased that you're spending time on sites that have nothing to do with your career and counting messages by users.

As for the other articles. Who the heck cares if I respond? I don't waste time replying to articles I know nothing about... I haven't used SBS 2011 yet. IE 9 preview... What am I going to write? "Good job MS?" That's just a waste of a post. I subscribe to the Wall Street Journal too, but I only read a third of it.

This is an article about Kinect. Kinect was *just* released and this is the first article post-release after a reasonable number of days. In other words, it's logical to think someone might have used it and wanted to share their experience.

"This is not a "business article". It briefly mentions the sales figures in one paragraph and uses just as much space to describe what the Kinect is."

Lets do a run through of this article and see who is correct.

Headline: This is about sales, not about what consoles do.

    Business 1, Kinnect Description 0

Paragraph 1: This talks about how many units were sold and in how many dayes. It also talks about projected sales and what date the device went on sale.

    Business 2, Kinnect Description 0

Paragraph 3: This is a quote from MS about the sales of the device, not about what the device does. It also goes on about the holiday sales season and how many MS expects to sell.

    Business 3, Kinnect Description 0

Paragraph 4: This gives a single sentence about what the devices does. Then talks about the pricing of the device.

    Business 3.5, Kinnect Description .5

Paragraph 5: This talks about release dates in other countries and how that will help reach the 5M sales unit mark MS has set.

    Business 4.5, Kinnect Description .5

In this entire article a single sentence was devoted to what the Kinnect is. "Kinect is a motion-sensor add-on for Microsoft's popular Xbox 360 video game console, enabling a new generation of Nintendo Wii-likebut controller-freegames." And a really in depth discussion of that as well :) The rest of the article is about SALES, which is business. So comparing Paul's analysis of sales of one product to his analysis of another is most certainly on topic and relevant.

    Game, Set, Match.

"I'm sick of it and I'd like to talk about the articles for once without talking about phones, or whatever the heck else has absolutely no relevance to what gets posted."

Its interesting, because I checked through all of Paul's other recent WinInfo posts, and you have not said a word. You claim to want to talk about the Xbox, yet you don't do that. You only seem to write in response to the "trolls". That makes you one as well.

"You are just as guilty as the rest of us for clogging up these boards!"

Why, because I want to talk about the Kinect, and you are mentioning unrelated stuff, and on top of that you realize there is no rational justification for your being here. You absolutely can't make it. Likewise you can't rationally tie Apple to this article at all, no matter how you try. Everyone just ignored the article completely and posted swill.

And yes, some of the articles are pointless to respond to, as they are release date stuff. For example, I didn't know SBS 2011 was going into RC, which is a product I use for the home office. If someone installed it and wanted to say it was a disaster, that would be meaningful. Since I never touched the thing as of yet, no point commenting.

This is not a "business article". It briefly mentions the sales figures in one paragraph and uses just as much space to describe what the Kinect is.

I was hoping *someone* would mention, "hey I bought one for the kids and it was great!" Or, "It stinks"... Whatever. However there is no logical justification whatsoever bringing Apple into this discussion.

I'd rather read about educated people who used the darn thing, rather than off-topic swill that gets posted over and over. The Apple trolls on this board never say anything new and different. It's cheerleading garbage, Apple has a huge market cap, my wang is bigger than everyone else crap. One could randomly click a 3-year-old article and it's the same tripe.

I'm sick of it and I'd like to talk about the articles for once without talking about phones, or whatever the heck else has absolutely no relevance to what gets posted.

This article is not about the Kinnect as a device, but rather about the sales of it. This is a business article, not a review, as I already stated. I am talking about how the sales figures should be analyzed, and how Paul is not being consistent with his analysis, or lack thereof. So you are really the one who is off topic if you want to talk about the Kinnect as it relates to gaming consoles.

The real question is if you are a serious Windows developer, why are you constantly reading Paul's articles? He spends quite a bit of time about Apple and other things not related to Windows, such as his obsession with WP7. Its funny because it seems most of your posts are simply retorts to the Apple "trolls" and not really a conversation as you claim. I don't see you posting much when the Apple "trolls" don't post.

You are just as guilty as the rest of us for clogging up these boards! :)
