Based on these comments, apparently SP4 introduces a problem with Windows 2000 Server Terminal Services, and a documented problem exists with the Multiple Universal Naming Convention Provider (MUP) component, mup.sys. Some people are also seeing incredibly long delays during system restart and logon, but we haven't deter...

In response to - Mr. DeLee -November 05, 2003 - It sounds as though you might be trying to install the 'Windows 2000 SP4 Checked Build' [http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/SP4/SP4build/default.asp], rather than the 'ordinary' - 'Windows 2000 Service Pack 4' version, this can be found at the TOP of the following page [http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/default.asp]. Worked for me, anyhow.

Pete Horne, The problem you're experiencing is most likely a permissions issue with the file. Open up my computer, select Tools, Folder Options, select view, clear the hide Protected operating system files, clear hide file extensions, select show hidden files and folders. The broswe to the root of c:\\ select arcsetup, right click and select properties. Click on the security tab, the click advanced. change the owner to the local administrators group, click apply, then add the everyone, system and service users with full control permissions. repeat on the arcldr.exe file

The WINSRV.DLL error is on the Microsoft Knowledge base, although it is unclear what causes it apart from the incomplete install of SP4.

Why of why doesn't it warn if it fails to update key DLL's during an install - very amateurish software.

Since I installed SP4 on a PC with a lot of USB devices, the PC is completely instabile and most of the devices do not work or stop working, I assume because of IRQ conflicts. All these devices were connected before and did not conflict
I think it is an SP which costed me some weekends and a lot of trouble already

Hi there,Having alot of problems upgrading Win2k sp2 machines to sp4. Error message stating that c:\\arcsetup.exe is still running. No Application called that or service is running. Only way around this seems to be a rebuild - unless anybody has any ideas of a work around?

Hi, I'm also having the same error. "Unable to write ScriptsMaps metabase entry", press OK and you'll get "Failed to execute regsvr32.exe. Error code 5". I am patching from SP3 to SP4. I have tried to uninstall IIS to patch SP4, but it did not work. I am using a Compaq Server running windows 2000 server to run CA's system monitoring applications. I have other similar servers but did not encounter such problems. Please help ... Thanks.

I'm almost surprised after reading the above - we had no problem at all with our brand new Proliant server systems! And even a Tally GDI printer works without a flaw. Maybe the difference to other readers experience was not having done updates...
