In the Reader to Reader article "A Free and Easy Way to Reset Directory Services Restore Mode Passwords" (March 2006, InstantDoc ID 49162), Murat Yildirimoglu and Hayriye Ceyhan present a way to reset the Active Directory (AD) Directory Services Restore Mode password in Windows 2000. Another way is to use the Setpwd utility in Win2K Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later or the Net User command in Win2K SP4 or later. You can find detailed instructions on how to use Setpwd utility or the Net User command for this purpose at http://www.petri.co.il/change_recovery_console_password.htm.
