Symantec launched two new online backup solutions, both of which should be attractive to small and medium sized businesses.

The company said that its new Online Backup offering lets companies store data in Symantec-operated data centers. The service works via a Web interface where users can select data to backup and schedule the necessary backup intervals. Users can then access Symantec's Software Protection Network Web site to review archived files and restore any files as necessary.

"It is essential that we have redundant, reliable backup solution for mobile users and remote office staff. While we need enterprise-class protection, we have a small IT staff so our backup solution must also be easy to manage. In the past, this combination has been difficult to find," said Christopher Booth, information technology director at Telsco Industries dba Weathermatic.

Symantec also said that it has integrated Online Storage for Backup Exec into Backup Exec 12. The online storage feature lets administrators centrally manage remote storage for data collected from systems across the network.

Both offerings are priced based on storage requirements with pricing starting at under $30 for 5GB of storage using Online Backup, and under $40 for 10GB of storage using Online Storage for Backup Exec.
