OpenOffice.org provides most of the capabilities of the Microsoft Office suite at a much lower price—free. As Windows IT Pro noted in December, OpenOffice is an effective alternative to Office for many users.

OpenOffice 3.0 was just released in October, but the new version boasts substantial improvements. The new version has improved graphics and better support for locking files, commenting in documents, and more. Check out the list of changes in the new version or visit the OpenOffice.org site for more information.
