Though not as robust as in 2000, demand remains strong for IT professionals, according to a study by the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA). As Graph 4 shows, demand for new IT workers in the private sector has dropped from 1.6 million last year to 900,000 in 2001. Nevertheless, employers anticipate that 425,000 of those jobs will remain unfilled, in contrast with 850,000 jobs last year.
