Disaster prevention and recovery was uppermost in many people's minds in 2002, yet a significant number of businesses still aren't prepared for the worst. According to a Digital Research nationwide poll of 1000 businesses with 100 or more employees, 25 percent still don't have business-continuity plans to address disasters and emergencies.
As Graph 1 shows, nearly half the respondents without a plan said that developing a business-continuity strategy wasn't a high priority in their organization. Another quarter believe that they won't experience a major disaster. Of the companies that did have business-continuity plans, 27 percent hadn't reviewed or evaluated those plans within the past year and 19 percent hadn't tested them within the past 5 years.
