AMD Introduces Long-Delayed Multi-Core Chips

I don't consider there to be an "intel tax". In terms of performance for price, Intel is quite reasonable. It simply appears more expensive in the Intel camp because AMD's most expensive, highest performing chip costs only 300US. Intel's 300US counterpart gives better performance, so it is a better deal.

Just because Intel's top dog costs 1k+ doesn't mean they are shafting anyone. It's irresponsible to the shareholders to sell completely unlocked cherry-picked engineering samples for maximum dollar. There isn't an X**** chip that won't do 4GHz+ easily, and won't trounce the bejebus out of anything else.

While I respect AMD for looking out for overclockers and people who couldn't afford the Intel tax, I gotta give it to Intel. They do make damn good processors. I just hope the new AMD's do sell well, because competition makes consumers the big winner.

Triple Core? Gutsy. No wonder both my machines us AMD. Sorry Intel, you gotta bring the prices down.

Uh... 9600BE's have been widespread for a while. True the B3 stepping is 'supposedly better' but I doubt they are shipping at a higher volume.

You must be joking if you think AMD has made a superior product. CHerry pick the worst performing Intel binned quad core and the best binned engineering sample phenom. I'll bet quarters to nickles the Intel will hit 3.0GHz and the phenom wont.

And don't throw IPC (instructions per clock i.e. architecture efficiency metric) out there. The day when core came into the fray was the day AMD lost the IPC crown.

well considering that the lowly Intel Q6600 is still beating the new AMD flagship Phenom X4 in most performance benchmarks, i'd say that Intel's design, albeit not native quad-core, is still superior in every aspect.

Just like the 4-cycle internal combustion engine, the VHS format video cassette, and Windows, the Intel Franken-ship will likely outsell the Phenom.
