New Boundary Automates Access Control
New Boundary Technologies specializes in solutions that automate the management
of IT and remote assets. The company's Policy Commander solution automatically
secures computers and controls access to electronic information, according to
Pete Ketchum, product manager. The software operates through policies stored
on a central server, a small client running on all systems, and a Web-based
UI. Key features are granular assignment and applicability of policies, 24x7
monitoring, a top-level view of compliance status, automated and offline remediation
and enforcement, a policy knowledge base, and a policy editor. Policies are
based on guidelines from standards bodies such as the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) and Microsoft security templates and are stored
in the Security Policy Knowledge Base, an online repository that customers can
access to download new policies as they become available. Administrators can
also create their own policies and can set up rules to determine which computers
should get specific policies. The current version of Policy Commander is 1.5;
version 2, with a new admin console and enhanced reporting, is due out at the
end of the year.
