Windows 2000 SP4 increased the size of the USN (Update Sequence Number) journal, that the FRS (File Replication Service) reserves from 128 MB to 512 MB.

To resolve this problem:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type fsutil usn deletejournal /D VolumePathName and press Enter, where VolumePathName is the DriveLetter:, the mount point, or the volume name.

NOTE: Install Fsutil.exe from a Windows XP CD, or Windows Server 2003 CD.

3. Type fsutil usn createjournal m=800000 a=100000 VolumePathName and press Enter, to decrease the size of the USN journal to 128 MB.

4. Use Chkdsk.exe with the /f switch to fix the drive.
