A. To enable the preview of PDF files in 64-bit OSs, do the following:

  1. Start the Registry Editor (Start, Run, Regedit.exe).
  2. Move to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\CLSID{DC6EFB56-9CFA-464D-8880-44885D7DC193}.
  3. Change the AppID value to {534A1E02-D58F-44f0-B58B-36CBED287C7C}.
  4. Reboot.

I found the solution!!! Thanks to the good folks over at http://www.pretentiousname.com/adobe_pdf_x64_fix/index.html.

For 64-bit Office 2010, it turns out the the same changes need to be made to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Classes\\CLSID\\{DC6EFB56-9CFA-464D-8880-44885D7DC193} which is not defined by default and must be added.

They have come up with a small downloadable utility to do all of this for you. Very nice for people not comfortable in editing the registry.

I have tried this fix and it is not working for me. Now, I get "This file cannot be previewed because there is no previewer installed for it".

I am running Adobe Acrobat 8.1.7 Professional on
    64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit Office 2010 beta.

    Anyone have ideas or solutions?
