Q: I've deployed Windows Rights Management Service (RMS) in my organization, but users aren't receiving the templates I'm pushing.

A. After you define templates in RMS, you have to tell the clients where they are. There are two methods for doing so. The best and easiest to maintain is to use Group Policy, which requires you to download the Microsoft Office 2007 templates from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=80639 and import the Office12.adm file into a Group Policy Object (GPO) or copy the office12.admx and its .adml file into the PolicyDefinitions folder of the client that's editing the GPO and then set the Specify Permission Policy Path under the Manage Restricted Permissions area setting to the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path of the template. Once the client updates Group Policy settings (via gpupdate), the new templates will be available. You can check the application of the Group Policy by viewing the registry value AdminTemplatePath at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\DRM. If you don’t want to use Group Policy, the second option is to manually set this value to the correct location by editing the AdminTemplatePath value at the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\DRM registry key. This key is not part of the policy path that is used by a Group Policy setting. You'll need to restart Word to make the templates usable.
