Q. I thought Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2 allowed you to hot add and remove virtual storage, but the option isn't available in the settings of the virtual machine (VM). What's wrong?

A. Hot adding or removing of storage (VHD or pass through) is only available on virtual SCSI controllers, not on virtual IDE controllers. You won't be able to add or remove storage on the IDE controller of a running VM. Add a virtual SCSI controller to take advantage of hot addition and removal of storage.
