Q. I disabled the "Store and display recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar" option in Windows 7 and now I don't get Jump Lists. Why not?

A. This is by design. Jump Lists provide the most recently accessed data related to a specific program. If you disable storing and displaying recently opened items in the Start menu and the taskbar through the Start menu properties, there's no information to generate the Jump List. Enable the option, shown here, to re-enable Jump Lists.
