MSN Messenger Service starts each time I log on, but it isn't in a Startup group. How do I stop it?

A. The MSN Messenger Service places itself in the run portion of the registry as %systemdrive%:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe /background. If you want to remove MSN Messenger Service entirely, use the Add/Remove programs Control Panel applet. However if you simply want to stop the Messenger Service from starting, perform the following steps:

Start regedit.exe.
Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run.
Right-click the MSMSGS entry, and select Delete.
Click Yes to the confirmation.

I did everything, still when i log on it shows how many emails i have to my hotmail account, please help

2. Start > Run | then type: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\\INF\\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This is the only one that worked for me - even after I'd supposedly removed it using Add/Remove Programs and turned all auto start options off.

(windows xp)Alright to remove msnmsg.... just go to the control panel...then go to add/remove programs....then on the left tabs go to add remove windows components... scroll through the list and uncheck windows messenger(should be at the very bottom)...if u have a newer version of msn and use that it wont be affected by doing this :) msnmsg.exe should load up on start up anymore either!

I use Messenger 7, but when opening some programs, Messenger 6.2 opens and boots the 7.0, i'm going to try the MSC option tonight, anyother ideas?
