How can I stop Web sites from accessing my local clipboard?

A. The dynamic HTML component in Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 5.0 and later lets Web sites access and write to the clipboard unless you use the High security setting. To avoid having to use the High security setting, perform the following steps:

  1. Start IE.
  2. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select Internet, then click Custom Level.
  5. Scroll down to the Scripting section.
  6. Under "Allow paste operations via script," set to Disable or Prompt, then click OK.
  7. Close all dialog boxes.

You should perform the same steps for the "Restricted sites" zone and any other security zones you think you might need (e.g., the "Local intranet" zone).

I understand that you have an association with Windows Network and .Net Magazine.

Tell us (or provide a link besides ordering info) about the relationship and what it means to us.

Also, I would think that a greater emphasis on "walkthroughs" or "how to's" would be great.

When I began administration/engineering as an NT/2000 guy, I knew about the concepts, but it would have been great to see someone take me through the steps of some of the new stuff...as an example, it would have been great to have someone step through the process of adding a website with hostname headers or to set up DNS from my home DSL service so I could control my own domain pointers...stuff like that.

By the way, I've used your site for years (6+?) and am deeply grateful for your help. Your site (and a few others like JSIINC) have helped me get and keep jobs. This directly translates into helping me feed my family, and to that, I'm honestly grateful.

One other suggestion, in the course of searching across the web, everyone has found links to the truly GREAT documents that stand out as awesome primers on any particular subject. I suggest that you either incorporate those into the site, or link to them. I wish I had any examples.
