How can I stop Windows XP's Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6.0 from displaying the dialog box that asks whether I want to send a report to Microsoft after the application crashes?
XP's default error handler automatically displays this dialog box whenever an application crashes. To disable this behavior for any application on an XP system, open the Control Panel System applet and click Properties. Select the Advanced tab and click Error Reporting. On the Error Reporting dialog box, you can disable or enable error reporting for the entire OS or for individual applications. If you choose to disable error reporting, you can still configure XP to notify you of crucial errors, without displaying the regular error-reporting dialog box.
To disable IE 6.0's default error-handling behavior on an OS other than XP, you can modify the system registry. To do so, set the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Micro-soft\Internet Explorer\Main registry subkey's IEWatsonEnabled value to 0 (a value of 1 enables the error handler). IE 6.0 enables the error handler by default, so if the IEWatsonEnabled value doesn't already exist, you'll need to create it and set it to 0. Note that when you disable IE 6.0's default error handler, the system will instead use the OS's default error handler (e.g., Dr. Watson).
