In Reader to Reader: "Internet Explorer Tip" (May 2003, InstantDoc ID 38551), John Green suggests configuring Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) to not reuse browser windows. If you follow John's instructions, each time you click a link a new window will open. I have an alternative that doesn't require you to change your browser's configuration. You can simply press the Shift key as you click a link to open a new browser window. This method lets you select on a case-by-case basis whether you want to open a new window or use an existing one. For example, when I'm checking a list of Google search results, I like to open a new browser window to follow a link several pages deep, then close just one window rather than clicking all the way back to the search results to follow a new link.
