The following tips will help you successfully install and thereafter modify the settings of Microsoft Remote Installation Services (RIS) on a member server. When authorizing the RIS server during installation, you must also install the DHCP service. DHCP requires an active scope, which the RIS client uses only when the client requests a network boot. Before you can view or use RIS Options on the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in to make changes, the RIS Windows component must be installed on the domain controller (DC). You don't need to run risetup.exe. After you install the RIS component on the DC, select the member server that has RIS running, right-click and select Properties, and select the Remote Install tab. You can then modify the RIS server's properties.
