SanDisk, Imation, and Verbatim each announced new solid state drive (SSD) products today, one day before the kickoff keynote for the Consumer Electronics Show, showcasing the popularity of SSD technology.

SSDs generally hold less and cost more than standard hard drives, but are faster and more energy-efficient. For more information about them, see "Is SSD the Future of Storage?"

SanDisk's new products are an evolution of existing SSDs, claiming higher speeds and lower prices for capacities from 8GB to 64GB. Imation's newly announced gear ranges from 32GB to 128GB and the company is offering kits to help migrate computers with hard drives to SSDs. Verbatim's new products go from 16GB to 64GB and plug into the ExpressCard slot found on high-end laptops to provide higher-speed storage than USB devices can offer.

More information about the products is available from the manufacturers' web sites: SanDisk, Imation, Verbatim.
