Single-Label Domain DNS Resolution

Q. Clients on my network are trying to communicate with a single-label domain (i.e., a domain with just one component, as in savilltech instead of savilltech.com) in another forest, but DNS resolution is failing. What's wrong?

A. By default, clients will use DNS to query single-label domain names only if a single-label domain exists in their local forest. To enable DNS for single-label domain names in either the local forest or remote, perform the following registry change on each client:

1. Start the registry editor (regedit.exe).
2. Navigate to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon\Parameters registry subkey.
3. From the Edit menu, select New, DWORD value.
4. Enter a name of AllowSingleLabelDnsDomain and press Enter.
5. Double-click the new value and set it to 1. Click OK.
