Most Access Points (APs) include built-in antennae adequate for many deployments. However, depending on the expanse of your coverage area or interference obstacles, you might want to add an external antenna. External antennae offer a variety of signal characteristics at different power levels; ask your vendor to help you select the correct antenna for your needs. Most high-end AP vendors offer a wide selection of external antennae, including indoor, outdoor, high-gain, and directional or omnidirectional. Some APs with dual antennas support diversity, which lets the AP use the antenna with the strongest signal.
