When it comes to group efforts, Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services, which won this year's Best Collaboration Solution award as well as the Best Document Management/Imaging Software award, finally seems to be hitting its stride. The product, which is available as a free download for Windows Server 2003, uses Web parts and ASP.NET-based components to create easily accessible and manageable collaboration Web sites. Readers mentioned that they like the product's ease of use and price--did we mention that it's free? Aside from that very big plus, however, Windows SharePoint Services has plenty to offer--scalability, easy customization, and integration with Microsoft Office products. New features include automatic notification of site inactivity, support for blocking certain file extensions, centralized administration pages, migration tools, integrated Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 alerts, the ability to upload multiple documents to a library, shared-namespace support, and much more.
