Each X on my calendar marks one day closer to the x-ing out of Windows XP. At the time I wrote this, Microsoft had announced that it wouldn’t sell XP after June 30, 2008 (June 30, 2010, for “ultra low-cost personal computers”—my computer was pretty cheap; does that count?). Although I love XP’s successor (as you can read in “Love at First Vista,” InstantDoc ID 96849), many others are pretty sore about being forced into Vista submission. Web sites have countdown animations and protest campaigns dedicated to the announcement; readers are expressing their Vista disgust through comments on Mark Minasi’s Vista commentary series (InstantDoc IDs 97462, 97721, and 97852). Everyone seems mad. So, being the thoughtful assistant that I am, I’ll lighten the mood and introduce a new version that everyone will like—the improved Windows IT Pro magazine.

In the print magazine’s new look—starting with the June issue—you’ll notice improved navigation and new features, plus quick tips and fast facts such as those in Ask the Experts; helpful Learning Paths in feature articles by Damir Dizdarevic, Michael Dragone, and Melissa Mendick; and enhanced formats for columns by Paul Thurrott, Mark Minasi, Karen Forster, Michael Otey, and yours truly. (Is this the part where I say, “But wait, there’s more!”?)

The new Windows IT Pro is designed to bring you the real-world solutions we’ve always offered in a better organized and just plain cooler way. We hope the new format will make finding solutions and getting through your workday easier.

Of course, unlike Microsoft and its plan to stow away the old version of Windows, Windows IT Pro will let you purchase copies of our old version any time you’d like—we don’t have to show our confidence by cutting you off. Write me at christan.humphries@penton.com to let me know what you think about the new Windows IT Pro magazine and what you can do to be a part of it.
