Microsoft Outlook 2002 is looking a little pale. Apparently, an important ActiveX control—the Microsoft Outlook View Control, which displays the Outlook Inbox—that ships with the new Microsoft Office XP personal information manager (PIM) and email application can let an intruder gain control of the user's system, a painfully familiar problem these days. Security researcher Georgi Guninski first discovered the bug. Microsoft is, of course, preparing a patch (for information, visit http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/security/bulletin/ms01-038.asp), but Guninski says he already has one: "Uninstall Office XP and Windows." Funny guy.
