Under Windows XP in a workgroup, why don't I see the Security tab for a file/folder?

A. To view the Security tab for a file or folder in XP, hold down the Ctrl key while right-clicking the file or folder, and select Properties. If you are in a domain instead of a workgroup, this approach is unnecessary.

You can also access Folder Options, View Tab, uncheck last box (Use Simple File Sharing)

The <ctrl>+<right click> hint doesn't work.
It could however be extreamly nice, compared to the other work around.

i tried both of these and still do not have a security tab. are there any other known issues with this?

greg drohan March 12, 2003

Actually if you go to the Tools-->Folder Options-->View
And uncheck Simple File sharing, then you won't have to hold the control key at all.
That's what MS has on thier site.
Cheers!

I have XP Professional at work joined to a domain and I still had to use the Ctrl key to view the Security tab.

In Windows XP, Goto windows explorer -> Tools -> Folder option -> uncheck the Use Simple File Sharing. I think thats will solve the problem.

You do not have NTFS disks open a command prompt and enter this command
convert driveletter:/FS:NTFS.
